Cooyar Hotel was originally a single story hotel built in 1903 but was rebuilt into a two storey in 1936 after burning down the previous Christmas Eve. Cooyar Hotel with our sweeping verandas is just 2 hours from both the Sunshine and Gold Coasts and Brisbane. Our “Outback Bar” has seen a great many BBQ, wedding and birthday party, or is the place to have just a great night out!

One of our very own proprietors, Karyn, has won the Leukemia Foundation’s “Ugliest” Barmaid award for Queensland with her tireless efforts to raise money for leukemia. As of September 2013, she has raised $45,000 in the last 3 years, with almost $20,000 of that raised just this year alone!
Cooyar is not just famous for our fundraising but also for our annual rodeo, agricultural show, trail bike rides and camp draft.
Cooyar may have a small population of about 320 but we have big hearts and are always happy chat, recite poetry or help out. We welcome everyone! It’s got to be the friendliest bar in Australia!

Our “Outback Bar” is fantastic for functions! With a BBQ, bar and a stage for a band, it’s a great venue for all types of weather!

Cooyar Hotel is a fun place that’s full of atmosphere!

At the Cooyar Hotel we not only have great country food but Friday night is pub meal & pizza night with BBQ night on Wednesdays.

Pig on a Spit every month

We have held many events held at Cooyar Hotel. From small club events such as E.G. Rolls Royce, Ford, Commodore, Mini, Austin as well as caravan clubs to the big events like Ford vs Holden Day which had Craig Lowndes and the Shannon’s Insurance truck. Plus we also hold the record for most people to go through the Shannon’s truck with 2,000 going through and that was on a wet, rainy day!

If motorbikes are more your thing the Ulysses club has a Blues Rally one weekend every September that about 1,200 people attend every year! The Patriots, Vietnam Vets, Brothers in Arms, Military Brotherhood, Southern Cross bike clubs plus many more also have events here.

Here at the Cooyar Hotel we have several accommodation options available. There are 9 rooms, with all beds having electric blankets for those cold winter nights.

If camping is what you’re interested in there are FREE campgrounds that back onto the Hotel, with campers able to use showers for just $3!
